CROSS-CULTURAL TRAINING FOR EXPATRIATE EMPLOYEES
Guidelines
• All expatriate management are advised to attend a cross-cultural training course so that they:
• gain specific skills to help them function effectively and smoothly in the local environment;
• acquire special insights into important management functions, which may be different between cultures, such as decision processes, meeting methods, ways of achieving urgency, and lines and methods of communication;
• become familiar with major local values and concepts, and how they affect the way work is conducted, and employees are managed most effectively;
• learn which behaviours are likely to succeed, and which are unsuitable.
Recommendations
• The Human Resources Department will arrange a training course for the expatriate employees to attend in their first or second month after starting work at the Hotel. The course may either be carried out by an external company or by an internal trainer.
• If the training is carried out by an external company, the Human Resources Department will arrange a feedback session to check the expatriate
employee’s understanding of the material trained, and to help him/her apply it to the hotel environment. This feedback session is highly recommended.
• The Human Resources Department will organise a follow-up session after the employee has been working at the Hotel for 6 months.
